Project Title: The World’s First Consumer 3D Printed Footwear Product – The Fit Slipper: An Exploration of Sole Materials

Project Description

Three Over Seven make footwear products for the everyday athlete, with a larger mission of “getting the world moving”.  The company has been exploring the possibility of incorporating additive manufacturing (AM) – popularly known as 3D printing – into footwear for some time.  One of their team – Earl Stewart – did his masters research in this area to global acclaim.  For a number of reasons – falling cost, expiring patents in the industry, wider infrastructure, improved scanning software etc. – they decided that the time was now to incorporate this manufacturing method into their next product, The Fit Slipper, with the goal of launching the world’s first additive manufactured consumer footwear product. Three Over Seven’s aim was to utilise a mobile software application and AM to create their next footwear product, made on demand, in London in a digital shoe factory.
