The London Design Festival (19th – 27th September 2015)

The London Design Festival is a nine day festival of contemporary design that celebrates London as the creative capital of the world. Over 350 events and installations will be on offer across the city, from a stimulating programme at the Victoria and Albert Museum to a series of installations and exhibitions in Somerset House. The Festival will showcase ideas from more than 250 partners, representing the heart of London’s design community, proving its role as a leading force in the city’s creative economy.

Sir John Sorrell CBE, Chairman of the London Design Festival, said:

“This year’s Festival programme really reflects the diversity of design across the whole of our capital with a vast array of events, installations and exhibitions showcasing the huge number of different design disciplines practiced in London. Locations this year range from some of London’s most historic buildings, to areas of the capital where regeneration is transforming the landscape in a truly exciting way.”

Some of the festival highlights include:

Ten Designers in the West Wing’, the London Design Festival is launching an exhibition of ten major international designers as part of its new partnership with Somerset House. The exhibition will present the work of an impressive list of well-established names, exhibiting in collaboration with their best clients. The participating designers, all of whom have been invited by the Festival, will create a bespoke environment in which to display their work within the recently renovated rooms in the building’s West Wing.

Barnaby Barford: The Tower of Babel. The Tower of Babel, tells an array of stories about our capital city, our society and economy and ourselves as consumers.

Curiosity Cloud’ is an installation by acclaimed Austrian design team mischer’traxler for Champagne Perrier-Jouët. The installation will transform the beautiful space of the V&A’s Norfolk House Music Room (British Galleries, Room 52b), in an exploration of the transience of nature and the Art Nouveau movement.

The V&A Digital Design Weekend 2015 (26th – 27th September) coincides with the London Design Festival, celebrating contemporary digital art and design, including interactive installations, demonstrations of robotics, tinkering and inventive electronics, workshops, family activities and more.
