Professor Morag Shiach

Director of Creativeworks London

Professor Morag Shiach is Director of Creativeworks London. She has an MA in Drama and Philosophy from the University of Glasgow, an MA in Communications from McGill University and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Cambridge. Her research expertise is in the cultural history of modernism; cultural representations of labour; theorisations of ‘popular culture’; and feminist readings of cultural texts. She was also Vice-Principal and Executive Dean (Humanities and Social Sciences) at Queen Mary University of London from 2010-2016.

Professor Andy Pratt

Research Lead - London: Place, Work, Knowledge

Andy has a BSc (Hons.) Geography from Huddersfield University (1981), and a PhD from Exeter University (1989). Andy is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences. He has worked in local radio and as an academic researcher. He has held academic appointments previously at Coventry University (Planning and Local Economic Development), Staffordshire University (Geography), University College London (Bartlett School of Planning), London School of Economics (Geography, and Urban Research Centre) 1998-2009, King’s College London (Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries) 2009 – 2013. He joined City University London in 2013.

Professor Geraint A. Wiggins

Professor Geraint A. Wiggins

London’s Digital Economy

Geraint A. Wiggins studied Mathematics and Computer Science at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and holds PhDs in Artificial Intelligence and in Musical Composition, from the University of Edinburgh. He is Professor of Computational Creativity in the Department of Computing at Queen Mary University of London, where he leads the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and the Computational Creativity Lab. He is Associate Editor (English) of Musicae Scientiae, the journal of the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music, a consulting editor of Music Perception and an editorial board member of the Journal of New Music Research.

Jana Riedel

Creativeworks London Hub Manager

Jana Riedel is Creativeworks London’s Hub Manager with the overall responsibility of ensuring successful operation and coordination of the Hub’s diverse and dispensed work streams. Jana also managed the London Creative and Digital Fusion programme, an ERDF-funded project that ran alongside Creativeworks London from 2012 – 2015. Previously, Jana was Senior Project Manager at United Business Media and before that Creative Content Manager for The SMARTlab Digital Media Institute at the University of East London. She is also an independent producer and filmmaker and holds a BA in Digital Arts & Video Production from the University of West London and an MA in Anglo-German Cultural Relations from Queen Mary University of London.

Suzie Leighton

Head of Knowledge Exchange Programme

Suzie Leighton was Joint Head of the Knowledge Exchange Programme at Creativeworks London and is a founding Director of The Culture Capital Exchange, with expertise in arts policy development, creative collaborations, organisational development and a detailed knowledge of Cultural and Creative Industries across London. Prior roles include 5 years at Arts Council England as a Senior Officer where her responsibilities included advising artists and companies on their development, managing a wide range of clients and funding programmes, as well as policy development for the dance sector across England. Suzie has also managed Dance UK, the national development agency for professional dance in the UK and has worked with a range of performing arts and arts education companies in a variety of management roles. Suzie is currently chair of the board of directors of Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company, an international touring company and an associate company at Sadler’s Wells.

Head of Knowledge Exchange Programme

Evelyn Wilson is a Director of The Culture Capital Exchange (www.tcce.co.uk). She was Head of Knowledge Exchange Programme with Creativeworks London one of four AHRC KE hubs in the UK. She joined LCACE, The Culture Capital Exchange’s predecessor, in 2005, working initially as Cultural Development Manager at Queen Mary UoL and then as its Senior Manager across the partnership.

She specialises in developing strategy and curating events, festivals and other frameworks in which to bring together researchers with cultural/creative sector practitioners around areas of common concern and purpose, often in contexts that span a range of disciplines. Previous posts include: Director of Lighthouse, Brighton, Director, Metapod, Head of Exhibitions and Cultural Events, Light House Media Centre, Wolverhampton. Evelyn is on the Advisory Group of the Doctoral Training Centre in Media Arts Technologies at Queen Mary UoL. She was board member and Chair, respectively of Furtherfield between 2005 – 2013 and has been advisor to Arts Council England in a number of fields regionally (Photography and New Media Arts) and nationally (Interdisciplinary Arts).

Tarek is the Post-Doctoral Research Assistant for the Place Work Knowledge Strand. He holds a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Geography, a Master’s degree in Urban Economy and Culture and a PhD in Human Geography/Cultural and Creative Industries. After finishing his undergraduate degree in Ottawa, Canada, he worked as a research associate at the University of Ottawa. He moved to the UK in 2005/06 to pursue a Master’s degree in Urban Economy and Culture at the University of Southampton. Following this, he obtained a PhD from King’s College London. He is also a music producer and DJ that performs on a regular basis in various spots around east London.

Capturing London’s Audiences

Mariza Dima was the Post Doctoral Research Assistant for the Audiences Strand. She is an interaction designer, creative technologist and design researcher. Her work focuses on the design and development of interactions using tangible, mobile, and haptic interfaces in socio-cultural contexts, prominently in performance art, theatre, and cultural heritage. She has a particular research interest in collaborative and participatory design processes of applying technology creatively, which she studies in parallel to a project. Her broader interests include political philosophy, theory of media and culture, performance studies, and design for societal transformation.

London’s Digital Economy

Alda Terracciano was Post Doctoral Research Assistant for the Digital Economy Strand. She is an academic, artist and activist. Her deep-seated interest in relational art, the use of new technologies to establish creative forms of engagement between cultural organisations, creative industry companies and audiences, and the advancement of current thinking on digital creative economy has been at the centre of her research and artistic practice. She is particularly interested in the potential of digital technologies to accelerate processes of democratisation in arts and society and the formation of digital heritage commons in g-local urban cultures. Alda is also Honorary Research Associate at University College London and Artistic Director at ALDATERRA Projects.

Evaluation & Dissemination Officer

Helen has a BA in English Literature and an MA in Medieval Studies from the University of Bristol and recently completed a PhD at the Centre for Editing Lives and Letters, UCL looking at the role of women in 16th century court politics. Prior to joining Creativeworks London in September 2015 she worked as an AHRC Cultural Engagement Intern at the London Metropolitan Archives and UCL Special Collections, on behalf of UCLDH. Since 2010 Helen has taught English Literature at QMUL, and taught International Early Modern History at LSE in the academic year 2014/15. She is also a Globe Education Lecturer at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Knowledge Exchange Coordinator

Rachel Lasebikan joined Creativeworks London in January 2015 to coordinate CWL’s Knowledge Exchange activities. She played a key role in KE events, information sharing, data gathering and working with CWL’s researchers, partners – both academic and non-academic – as well liaising with the SME sector in London, with a view to assessing their needs and identifying how they might benefit from the CWL project during its lifespan and thereafter. Previously Rachel worked as Community & PR Manager on the ICT & Art Connect and Cre-AM.eu EC projects, bridging arts/creatives industries with technology and innovation providers to explore collaboration and new ways of working. She was also the Communications Officer at SMARTlab in the UK and Ireland. Rachel holds an MA in Design studies (Applied Imagination) from Central St Martins and a degree in Fashion from Southampton.

Jasmine was Creativeworks London's Hub Administrator, responsible for the administration of all award schemes including the Fusion Collaborative Awards for the London Creative and Digital Fusion programme. Jasmine organised the CWL Partners Forums and provided office support for Creativeworks London across all activities of the hub.

Noshin Sultan was Creativeworks London’s Knowledge Exchange Administrator responsible for managing and organising the office support for all the knowledge exchange activities of the hub, compiling the monthly newsletter and overseeing the Creativeworks London website content. Before joining Creativeworks London Noshin was the UK Coordinator for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (UK). Noshin holds a BSc in Fashion Technology from De Montfort University.

PhD 2013, University of Westminster. Jasmina is a Project Manager with expertise in research management and EC grant management. She has knowledge of several funding schemes (Framework Programme, Humanities in the Research Area, European Regional Development Fund) and has experience of working in different HEI environments (both in the UK & Europe). She is fluent in three European languages (English, French, Croatian) and has a working knowledge of two other European languages (Swedish & German). Jasmina was the QMUL Coordinator for London Creative and Digital Fusion and her main area of responsibility was the management of the London Fusion Collaborative Awards programme and the development of the B2B Collaboration workshop.

Naomi was the QMUL Administrator for the London Creative and Digital Fusion project. She was responsible for organising events relating to the London Fusion programme and help with the recruitment of digital and creative SMEs into the programme. Naomi dealt with the financial administration of Fusion related expenditure and gathered all evidence in accordance with the rules and regulations of ERDF administration.
